North Conway, New Hampshire
Looking for that old-fashioned general store experience complete with antique fixtures and a large candy selection? Zeb’s General Store in North Conway is a required destination for anyone looking for unique New England products in great atmosphere. Owner’s David Peterson and Peter Edwards intentionally created a distinctive store that focuses on local products – a big reason why Zeb’s was chosen as the 2006 Retailer of the Year by the Retail Merchants Association of New Hampshire and Business NH Magazine. And recently Zeb’s took their dedication to the regional community one step further when they established a charitable fund to assist children in the Mt Washington Valley.
Zeb’s carries goods from all over New England including candy, maple syrup, personal care products and toys. The candy and toys are a big draw for kids, but adults love the gourmet foods, home furnishings and gifts (and, okay maybe the candy, too!). Good food is always a draw and Zeb’s offers a lot of in-store demos to introduce new products. Ray Boutin of Zeb’s says that this allows customers to try things they might be unfamiliar with and it helps them to get past the higher prices because the products taste so good. Sure, you can buy salsa or cheese from the larger chain stores but can you buy fresh, locally made salsa and cheese?
Zeb’s has a reputation as a business that stocks local goods and for helping new businesses step into the specialty foods or local giftware market. Ray Boutin says that Zeb’s already purchases a lot of products from NEPTS exhibitors but that the show is a great way to try out the new things beings offered each year and to meet new business owners.
